Our Mission:

To educate the whole child. We believe that all children can excel at academics and that activities and citizenship are just as important. Our students know that we have high expectations for them and they strive to meet them. We welcome involvement from parents and the community.

  • Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) District Updates

    November 2020
    Dear Sheridan Students & Families,

Just as I was beginning to think we would not open beyond our 10 student cohorts for two hours, the metrics changed!  Last week the Oregon Department of Education (ODE), with the Oregon Health Authority and the Governor’s office, released a new set of COVID-19 metrics.

The new metrics focus on county COVID data, case rate per 100,000 and test positivity. Every Monday ODE releases a two week look back of both measures. Yamhill County, October 18 – 31, had 96.2 COVID cases per 100,000 and test positivity was 4.9%. Under the new guidelines, with less than a 100 cases and test positivity below 5.0%, we can open for a K-5 hybrid model in the coming weeks.

The hybrid model will require some careful planning. We are still required to maintain a 36’ square distance around students and implement all health and safety protocols. This means we can only have 12-15 students in a classroom. To accomplish this, only half the students can attend at one time.

Keep in mind that the hybrid model is a combination of online learning and in-person instruction. Due to the constraints on classroom space we must continue online learning using Canvas and SeeSaw. In-person time will allow students to spend time with their teacher and peers, reviewing assignments, socializing, solving technology problems and other engaging activities. The online learning will continue to be the primary mode of instruction.

This opportunity is exciting for many, and scary for others. It is important that we continue to respect the opinions of others which may be different from our own. Also, please know that preventing the spread of COVID-19 is our top priority. Our district nurse and the custodial staff continue to work closely with staff regarding all of our health and safety measures.

More information will be coming out in the next couple of weeks regarding the K-5 hybrid model. If the partial opening of K-5 goes smoothly, and COVID counts decline in the coming weeks, we will look at a hybrid model for grades 6-12 sometime in early 2021.

Thank you for continuing to support Sheridan School District!

    Dorie Vickery, Ed.D
