Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Sheridan Schools!

The Sheridan School District welcomes and encourages parents and community members to actively participate in student learning and appreciates your commitment to our students.  BEFORE volunteering for any activity prospective volunteers must:

  1. Complete a new volunteer application for every school year.
  2. Complete a required Abuse Prevention course (please expect this course to take up to one hour)

**Note it is not possible to complete your volunteer packet and begin volunteering on the same day. Time required for background checks can range from 1-2 weeks, depending on the level required.

Background Check Information

Background checks will be conducted on all adults who will have contact with students in order to protect the safety and welfare of the children of the Sheridan School District.

Volunteers in the following roles require a fingerprint-based background check:

  • Head coaches
  • Assistant coaches
  • Overnight chaperones
  • Volunteers transporting students (other than their own) in a private vehicle off district property for a district-sponsored activity

For the majority of volunteers, the background check will be triggered when you return your volunteer application. You do not need to take further action to complete this step; we will notify you when your background check has been approved.

The district requires a criminal records check for all volunteers who may have direct, unsupervised contact with students. Positions that require a fingerprint-based criminal records check include: head coach, assistant coach, overnight chaperone, and volunteers transporting students (other than their own) in a private vehicle for district-sponsored activities.

Volunteers in these roles may not begin service until the fingerprint-based criminal records check has been completed and cleared. The district will provide information on where and how to complete fingerprinting if it is required.

Volunteers with direct, unsupervised contact with students must also complete an in-state criminal records check and may not begin service until it is cleared. Any volunteer who provides false information on an application or has a disqualifying criminal conviction under applicable law will be denied or removed from volunteer service.

The district will cover all required fees for criminal records checks and fingerprinting. Volunteers who refuse to complete required checks will not be allowed to serve.
